It was fun to come back to my Alma Mater in Bonn and give a colloquium at the Argelander-Institut für Astronomie. After my talk, I got great feedback from Andreas Brunthaler: the maser people from Harvard and the Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie apparently get the same results for the Galactic center distance as me! This makes it an agreement between three independent methods.
After being gone from AIfA for more than a year now, I realized that not too much has changed. Even Michael’s and my office looks pretty much as if I had never left – especially the precious door decoration still reflects the many years I spent there. Besides being nostalgic, I worked with Michael no. 2 and Miklos on the revision of our paper on the low-mass X-ray binary 4U 1820-30. It’s pretty much done and should be published soon! I will give a summary here once it’s accepted.
